International Babywearing Week is coming up!

It's almost that time of year again! Time for us to be thinking about International Babywearing Week. This year it is being held from October 6-12.

Our first BABiC meeting in October falls within that week and I am hoping to get some activities planned for us to enjoy. Last year the brunch was tons of fun!

A photo contest is also in the works. Look for more details soon.

The theme for this years celebration is Safe Babywearing. If anyone has any suggestions for activities we could do or things you'd like to see just post here or send me an email at contactBABiC@gmail.com

New Meeting Schedule

Long time, no post. I hope everyone had a good winter!

BABiC is changing direction here in 2010. We are going from a weekly meeting schedule back to a bimonthly meeting schedule. Our day (Monday) and time (6:00pm) and location (Organic Underground, 255 Front Street, Belleville) will not be changing at this time. Instead of meeting every Monday we are going to meet on the first and third Monday of the month.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, May 3rd. I hope to see everyone there!

IBW Photo Contest Winners

Hi everyone,

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to get the winners list up on the blog. Thank you to everyone who submitted pictures. They were all amazing! Thank you also to everyone who voted :)

For the votes the grand prize winners were selected in all categories and then the runner up was the picture which had the most votes which was submitted by a person who had not already won a prize. Everyone who participated will receive a $5.00 gift card to Organic Undergroun d. Runners up will receive their OU gift card as well as a $20.00 gift card to TAPS. First prize winners will receive their OU gift card as well as a $25.00 gift card to TAPS and a $10.00 gift card to Blacks for printing those beautiful photos.

Winners were announced at our first meeting in October. For those who were not there and have not already received your prizes you can pick them up at BABiC (tonight or any other meeting in the future).

The time that we've been waiting for has come. The submissions are in and it's time to vote for your favourite pictures in this years photo contest.

Rules for voting:

1. Voting will be open from now until October 13th

2. You may pick up to 5 choices from each category as your favourite shots.

3. In order to submit votes you must be a BABiC member (have attended at least one meeting).

4. Email votes to contactbabic@gmail.com I will not be submitting entries or voting in the contest because I am the one tallying the votes and distributing the prizes and I couldn't possibly pick anyway among all of the amazing choices.

Babywearing at the Park - TOMORROW

Just a reminder that our picnic in the park will be tomorrow, Sunday September 27 at 11am at Zwicks Park. We are going to gather there and hang out. The family fun day starts at 1pm and we'll be around at least until it starts. Join us for demos and chatting and snacks and fun!!!

Everyone who comes tomorrow can enter their name in a draw for a new sling! :)

Photo Contest in for International Babywearing Week

As promised we are running a photo contest in recognition of International Babywearing Week. The photos will be collected from now until our meeting on October 5th. On Tuesday, October 6th the voting will start and prizes will be awarded at the meeting on *Tuesday* (note the day change because of Thanksgiving Day being on the Monday) October 13th.

Contest Rules

1. Submissions must be a picture that you have taken or a picture which is of you (or your immediate family) which you have permission to share from the person who took the photo.

2. You may submit up to 3 photos per category.

3. Please submit the highest resolution copy you have of your shot.

4. All photo submissions must be accompanied by the following information:

*Name of person(s) in photo
*Category photo is being submitted under (each photo may only be submitted under one category)
*Contact info (name and email and/or phone #) of person submitting photo

More Wrapping on the Front

We had the second installment of the topic for this week today. It was a small group of us on a grey day, but we had a very enjoyable time. Unfortunately I forgot my camera again so no pics from this meeting. :(

Front Carries with a Wrap

That was the topic of tonights meeting and we had quite a few members turn out to join in! We covered how to do a Front Wrap Cross Carry (FWCC), Front Cross Carry (FCC), and Kangaroo carry. We got to see some members we havn't seen in a while and it was a lot of fun.

I don't have photo permissions for any of the pictures that we took tonight of members wearing, so I'll just leave you with a picture from tonight of my own toddler running around being a ghost with a wrap made of solar material (donated to BABiC by Leigh-Anne, owner of Khangas - Wraps for Little Ones).

Babywearing in Hotter Weather

Today we had our first daytime meeting for Summer 09. There were only two of us in attendance but we spent a wonderful time together chatting and playing with carriers. No pictures because I forgot the camera at home, but I'll aim to remember next time. :)

Cancelled Meeting

I am so sorry to anyone who showed up to meet with us tonight at Organic Underground. There was a concert going on (as I'm sure you noticed lol) and we weren't aware that it was going on until tonight when we got there.

The meeting next week will go on as scheduled and we'll cover warm weather babywearing then :)

Lending Library

BABiC is not just a place to learn about carriers... it's a place to get to try them too! :D We have a variety of carriers that members bring each week for others to try on and play with. In addition, for BABiC members there is a lending library with carriers that can be signed out and taken home until the next meeting.

New blog for us at BABiC

*waves* to everyone reading this blog. I finally got around to starting this for us to keep everyone updated on what we're up to lately. BABiC (aka Belleville and Area Babes in Carriers) is the Quinte area babywearing group. It started as just an idea in 2007 and our first meeting was August 1, 2007. Now almost two years later we're still going strong!

We meet every Monday at 6:00pm at Organic Underground (255 Front Street S in Belleville). They have a kid friendly space with lots of yummy snacks and drinks for sale while we visit. Come and join us and learn more about babywearing, get help using the carriers you have, try new carriers, and chat with other Moms and Dads while your kids play with other kids in attendance :)

I'm Alison, the founder and facillitator of BABiC and I'm the one with the short red hair and I usually either have a baby on me or am chasing down my toddler (or both LOL).
